A Gateway to Global Opportunities
Starting in the 2024/25 school year, CRPS is set to expand its French language learning horizon by introducing French Language Arts (FLA) 10-1 and 10-2 at Canmore Collegiate High School (CCHS). This addition marks a significant enhancement of the existing Kindergarten to Grade 9 French Immersion program, reflecting CRPS' commitment to providing comprehensive and inclusive educational opportunities.
FLA 10-1 is designed for students with a higher proficiency in French, aiming to refine their language skills to an advanced level. This stream is ideal for learners aspiring to utilize French in academic or professional contexts, focusing on critical thinking, in-depth analysis, and complex text creation and interpretation in French. FLA 10-2 caters to students with basic to moderate French proficiency. It emphasizes practical language use, helping students communicate effectively in everyday situations and develop a solid foundation in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. It is anticipated that students who have completed these courses will progress to FLA 20 and 30 level courses in future years.
The introduction of these courses at CRPS is not just about language learning; it's about opening doors to global opportunities. Students who undertake these courses will be eligible to write the Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française (DELF) exam—an internationally recognized certification that benchmarks their French language proficiency against the globally accepted Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Why is this important? The DELF certification is a key that unlocks a multitude of opportunities. For students, it's a tangible asset that can significantly enhance their academic and career trajectories. Universities and employers worldwide acknowledge the DELF as a testament to a candidate's language proficiency, often a prerequisite in French-speaking environments.
