Banff Community High School / Canmore Collegiate High School

Bow Valley Students Ready to Work

More than 730 students from Canmore, Banff and Mini Thni will connect with local employers at the 2025 Student Hiring Fair on April 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Canmore Collegiate High School. Organized by Canadian Rockies Public Schools, this high-energy event pairs youth with summer jobs, part-time positions, and apprenticeships. Students arrive ready - with safety certifications, résumés, and training in trades and tech. District Principal Hans Holthuis says the face-to-face format builds confidence and strengthens community ties. The hiring fair delivers more than employment - it cultivates experience, drive, and the next generation of the Bow Valley’s workforce. Contact Hans Holthuis for full details.

Banff Elementary School

Books on the Move at BES

Banff Elementary School is marking Education Week with a community-powered Book Swap on April 10. Families are encouraged to donate gently used children’s books (ages 4–13) between April 1–9 at the BES office. The swap gives students a chance to discover new reads while passing along favourite stories. Contact Jason Billings for more information.

Bright Minds on Display at BES

For the first time in five years, the Banff Elementary School gym will buzz with discovery as 33 young scientists in grades 4 to 6 showcase their curiosity and creativity at a long-awaited Science Fair. From erupting volcanoes to solar-powered inventions, students have poured their energy into hands-on experiments that reflect their wonder and understanding of the world. With just one hour to experience the event -  April 2 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. - this small but mighty fair offers a glimpse into the next generation of thinkers, tinkerers and trailblazers. Contact Dean Conniff for details.

Books, Brains and Banff Spirit

Banff Elementary School (BES) is opening its classroom doors for an engaging celebration of Education Week on April 10, 2025, from 2 to 3 p.m. Families will join students for hands-on literacy and numeracy activities that highlight classroom learning in action. This vibrant event reflects BES’ commitment to community connection and educational excellence. Educators and students will be side by side with parents, solving, reading and sharing their love of learning. It’s a rare media opportunity to witness what transformational education looks like up close, in real time, and led by young learners who are proud to show what they know. Contact Jason Billings for more information.

Elizabeth Rummel School

Pizza with a Purpose
Families can savour a slice and support education at Red Rock Pizza Night on April 3, starting at 5 p.m. Red Rock Pizza in Canmore is donating a portion of the evening’s sales to the Elizabeth Rummel School (ERS) Parent Council. Every family who orders is automatically entered into a draw for a pizza prize pack. It’s a delicious way to give back to the school community. Learn more at redrockpizza.ca/canmore.

Blue, Green and Clean at ERS

Students at Elizabeth Rummel School are honouring Earth Day with action and colour on  April 11. Dressed in blue and green, students will head outdoors to clean up their community - armed with “magic mittens” to keep little hands clean. If the weather cooperates, the celebration will continue with a joyful, school-wide picnic on the field. Staff will also be sharing the video “Thank You, Earth” to spark gratitude and conversation among young learners. Together, these simple acts make a big statement: ERS students care for the planet they call home. For more information contact Brian Wityshyn.

Exshaw School

Art That Lifts Us All

In celebration of Education Week, Exshaw School students are turning creativity into celebration through an all-grades art contest inspired by the theme “Learning Uplifts Us All.” Original drawings will fill the halls with inspiration, reflecting the many ways education elevates lives. Student submissions are due April 10, with one winner selected per division. One of Canadian Rockies Public Schools’ Trustees will be in attendance to help choose the winning works, which will earn each artist outdoor equipment - just in time for spring break. The entire school will enjoy a vibrant bulletin board display beginning April 11, honouring both student voice and artistic expression. For more information contact Craig Kestle.
