Opening Doors to Opportunity at the Student Hiring Fair
Finding that first job is a big step, and for many high school students, it’s one of the most exciting and nerve-wracking experiences they’ll have. Landing a job isn’t just about earning a paycheque - it’s about gaining confidence, learning responsibility, and figuring out what comes next.
That’s why Canadian Rockies Public Schools’ (CRPS) 2025 Student Hiring Fair is such a valuable opportunity. On April 9, from 9 to 11 a.m., Canmore Collegiate High School will host an event designed to connect students from Banff Community High School and Canmore Collegiate with employers who are actively hiring. Whether students are looking for summer work, part-time positions, or even registered apprenticeship opportunities, this fair gives them the chance to meet hiring managers, ask questions, and take that first step toward meaningful employment.
For businesses, it’s a chance to meet enthusiastic young job seekers who are already part of the Bow Valley community. With more than 730 students expected to attend, the fair offers a direct connection to local talent - students who are trained in workplace safety and, in many cases, have skills in a variety of vocations like culinary arts, mechanics, construction, or digital technology.
District Principal Hans Holthuis believes this event is a game-changer. “When students meet employers in person, it gives them confidence. It also helps businesses see beyond a résumé and recognize the potential in these young people.” He emphasizes that hiring locally benefits everyone. “These students live here, they want to work here, and they’re eager to learn. That’s a huge advantage for employers looking to build a strong, reliable team.”
Beyond job opportunities, the fair gives students something even more valuable: experience. Even those who don’t land a job right away gain insight into the hiring process - how to introduce themselves, what to expect in an interview, and how to present their skills. In preparation for the event, students have been refining their résumés, brushing up on interview techniques, and learning how to confidently communicate their skills and interests to potential employers. With only a short window to make an impression, they are actively preparing to put their best foot forward.
Local businesses are encouraged to do the same. The hiring fair is an opportunity not only to meet potential employees but also to showcase what makes each workplace a great fit for students. Employers should come prepared with information about available roles, workplace expectations, and opportunities for growth. Those interested in participating should secure their spot soon, as only 60 tables are available. Employers can reserve a table today by completing the booking form. The Student Hiring Fair is more than just a networking event; it’s a launchpad for students and a chance for businesses to connect with the workforce of tomorrow.
