Home-Court Advantage! CCHS Hosts High-Stakes Zone Basketball Championships

Canmore Collegiate High School (CCHS) is set to host some of the best basketball talent in the province as the Senior Boys South Central Zone Basketball Championships tip off next week. With a chance to qualify for provincials at stake, teams will compete for the top two spots, making for an action-packed tournament that promises fast-paced, high-intensity games.

CCHS’ senior boys team enters the tournament ranked fourth in the zone, facing tough competition from some of the best teams in the province, including top-seeded Brooks Composite and second-ranked Strathmore High. The CCHS boys open their tournament run at home on March 11, in what is sure to be an exciting match at 6:15 p.m. Every game will be a battle, and with so much talent on the court, fans can expect a thrilling week of basketball.

The team’s approach to the game is built on defensive intensity, which fuels offensive momentum and fast-break scoring opportunities. Under the coaching skills of senior basketball coaches, Jesse Whittington and Jordie Mark, both coaches emphasized the team’s ability to play free-flowing basketball, keeping the ball moving and capitalizing on strong shooting depth. With multiple players capable of leading the scoring, the team’s balanced attack makes them a dangerous opponent.

The tournament continues throughout the week. The full schedule will evolve based on results, but CCHS will be aiming for a strong performance to stay in contention for a top-two finish and a trip to provincials. Fans are encouraged to come out, fill the stands, and bring energy to support the home team. Admission is free, making it a great opportunity for families and community members to experience high-level basketball right here in the Bow Valley.

While the senior boys battle for a provincial spot, all other CCHS teams will be in action in tournaments across the zone. The junior varsity boys tip off March 10 at 6:30 in a must-win play-in game at home, while the senior girls travel to Cochrane on Wednesday for their own zone tournament. Later in the week, junior and senior teams will be on the road competing in Brooks, Strathmore, and High River, adding to an already packed schedule of championship basketball.

With home-court advantage and a strong community behind them, the CCHS senior boys will be looking to make a deep run in the tournament. Whether cheering from the stands or following along as the tournament unfolds, the Bow Valley community has an exciting week of basketball ahead.
