Board of Trustees Legacy Scholarship Recognizing Student Excellence
The April 11 deadline is fast approaching for the Board of Trustees Legacy Scholarship, a unique opportunity for Grade 11 and 12 students at Banff Community High School and Canmore Collegiate High School to gain recognition for their leadership, innovation, and commitment to lifelong learning. Established by the Canadian Rockies Public Schools (CRPS) Board of Trustees, this scholarship reflects the division’s mission of inspiring hearts and minds; it is designed to support students who exemplify Alberta Education’s Student Competencies, including critical thinking, creativity, communication, global citizenship, and personal growth.
More than financial assistance, this new scholarship acknowledges students who take an active role in their education and community. Applicants must showcase their strengths in enacting the competencies through a media submission, which can be a 500-word essay, video, podcast, or another multimedia format. A letter of reference from a teacher, mentor, or community leader is also required, ensuring that candidates have demonstrated their competencies in meaningful, real-world ways.
The scholarship fund totals $5,000, divided between both schools to maximize impact. One student from each high school will receive $1,250, while two additional students per school will be awarded $750 and $500, respectively. Recipients can apply their scholarship toward post-secondary tuition, housing, apprenticeship costs, or other structured educational opportunities; funds must be used by September 2026, with proof of use required.
The strongest candidates will be those who demonstrate how they apply their skills in everyday life, whether through academic work, extracurricular activities, or community engagement. Scholarship recipients will be recognized during their school’s awards ceremony in the spring or fall, where a CRPS Trustee will present the award; their achievements will also be highlighted in a formal media release and featured in CRPS’ 2024/25 Annual Education Results Report.
With only a few weeks remaining until the deadline, now is the time for students to reflect on their contributions, gather their materials, and submit an application that showcases their talents and aspirations.
