Shop for a Cause - Thrift Days Fundraiser at Canmore Collegiate High School

Canmore Collegiate High School’s (CCHS) 2025 Graduating Committee is thrilled to announce an exciting initiative: the "Thrift Days" fundraiser set for Nov. 6 and 7. This unique event aims to raise funds for the audio equipment and DJ necessary for students’ 2025 formal graduation evening, ensuring that this milestone celebration is truly unforgettable. To make this event a success, the students are reaching out to parents and the community for support.

As part of this effort, the graduating class invites everyone to contribute gently used clothing, specifically items suitable for teenagers. The goal is to create a diverse and appealing thrift store that will cater not only to the graduating class but also to middle school students and their families. The items sought include shirts, sweaters, pants, outdoor wear, and hats or accessories. The school asks that no socks, underwear, or damaged items be included.

Donations will be collected in Supervising Teacher Alanna Bittner’s classroom throughout the remainder of October, with a deadline set for Nov. 1. Alanna emphasizes, “This fundraiser not only helps our students financially but also promotes sustainable practices by giving new life to gently used clothing. We’re excited to see our community come together for this cause.”

The thrift store will be open during the parent-teacher-student interviews on Nov. 6 and 7, providing a perfect opportunity for parents to shop for their teenagers. Families can explore a variety of trendy and practical clothing items while helping their children celebrate their academic success thus far in the school year.

Beyond just raising funds for graduation, the Thrift Days initiative emphasizes the values of compassion and generosity. Any unsold items will be donated to the Mustard Seed initiative, a local charity dedicated to supporting those in need. This aspect of the fundraiser reinforces the ethos of CCHS, which prioritizes community engagement and social responsibility. By participating, families help ensure that the graduating class of 2025 not only achieves their fundraising goal but also extends their kindness to those less fortunate in the valley.

This hands-on experience also provides valuable life lessons for students. By organizing the fundraiser, they are developing skills in teamwork, organization, and entrepreneurship, all while contributing to a meaningful cause. The effort they put into collecting donations, setting up the thrift store, and engaging with the community fosters a sense of ownership and pride as they prepare for their graduation.

Your support and donations can make a significant difference in the lives of CCHS students and those benefiting from the Mustard Seed initiative. Let's come together to celebrate and support our youth in this exciting endeavour!
